While touring properties in Point Loma I couldn't help but stop to enjoy the view. This neighborhood of Point Loma is attached to the mainland by a strip of land. The Port of San Diego owns and controls Shelter Island and a variety of businesses such as art galleries, antique shops, hair salons, and ice cream parlors, lease from the Port.
The Silvergate Yacht Club is on Shelter Island as well as remarkable pieces of art like the Tunaman's Memorial and the Yokohama Friendship Bell. Many outdoor weddings enjoy the Pearl of the Pacific fountain with it's mosaic wall and impressive arch.
Many large yachts use this harbor because it is deep enough for these bulky vessels. The annual YachtFest is held in Shelter Island Marina every September. Locals and tourists visit this area to see the Fourth of July fireworks and Parade of Lights in December.
